Yes, 90% of the time, moving a piano will move the body to which the strings are attached and therefore will require retuning. In some cases, even moving a piano across a room can make it out of tune.

Please keep in mind that your piano will need tuning after the move even if it is moved into a new house within the same city.

Moving an upright or grand piano requires careful planning. Whether you are moving locally or long distance, your piano requires special handling in order to arrive at its destination safe and sound.

Our professional movers will give the same care and attention when relocating any size or type of piano. Our company has years of experience moving pianos both within Minnesota and out-of-state.

We supply comfortable pads to protect your piano's finish, specially fitted wooden planks for added support during transport, and steel piano dollies to ease movement. We also have special equipment that safely brings the piano up or down stairs without causing damage to floors or walls.

Our prices include all required materials, packing services, blankets and padding needed to ensure your precious piano is safe during transport.

For local moves, pianos can also be moved without being present at the location. Just let us know if you are planning any special circumstances that would require your home or business to be empty for a couple of hours. We will be happy to accommodate.

For long distance moves, it is best if someone can be present to sign for your piano's arrival.

To ensure your safety and satisfaction, we recommend scheduling your piano move at least one week before the actual date of transportation. This allows us to order the necessary equipment and supplies and make the necessary arrangements.

Whether you need to move your piano locally or cross-country, we offer a variety of shipping services. We also provide climate-controlled storage for your piano and other household items. If you would like to use us for both moving and storage, that's not a problem.

We have experience with all types of pianos, including spinets, consoles, studios and concert grands. Piano movers are also proficient in the required packing techniques for each type of piano. Our professionals can provide you with information on which type would be best for your move.

Before your piano is moved, it should undergo some preparation. Some of the most common things we do before moving a piano include:

  • Cover the pedals and loose keys with cloth or paper bags.
  • Remove all removable parts including all front panels and any sheet music holders.
  • Put felt or cardboard between the hinges and pedal assembly to prevent scratching.
  • Take off any removable legs or other additions attached to the piano's exterior surface.
  • Disconnect the pedals and cover them with cloth before shipping.

For long distance moves, we also recommend disconnecting your piano from its present strings and tuning up the instrument as part of our pre-move process.
